Job Description
Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Lead Practitioner to join its Adult Localities Service based in Colindale, London (NW9 4EW). This is an interim role paying £24.24–£33.22 per hour, starting 13 July 2026.
This is a practice leadership position within a busy operational team, combining direct management of complex and high-risk cases with visible support to frontline practitioners. You will hold a caseload of advanced adult social care cases, lead on Court of Protection applications and proceedings, and provide expert advice on safeguarding, risk management, and complex decision-making. Quality assurance, audit activity, and mentoring colleagues are also key aspects of the role.
Essential requirements include current Social Work England registration and significant experience in adult social care, with demonstrated expertise in complex casework, Mental Capacity Act work, safeguarding, and Court of Protection proceedings. A strong working knowledge of the Care Act and relevant safeguarding legislation is required.
The successful candidate will be someone who can hit the ground running — a confident, resilient practitioner capable of providing immediate professional leadership to a team managing demanding, high-complexity cases.
