Job Description

Lambeth Council is seeking an experienced Democratic Services Officer to join the Legal and Governance department at Lambeth Town Hall, Brixton. This is a temporary role paying £21.12–£27.52 per hour, starting 6 July 2026.

You will be responsible for servicing Council committees, sub-committees, working parties, quasi-judicial bodies, and key officer groups that underpin the Council’s decision-making framework. Day-to-day duties include preparing and processing committee reports to tight deadlines, drafting formal minutes, letters and reports, recording and notifying members and officers of decisions, and advising Chairs, elected members and officers on Standing Orders, governance arrangements and constitutional matters.

You will also support quasi-judicial proceedings such as education admission and exclusion appeals, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and the principles of natural justice, and contribute to democratic engagement initiatives including public petitions, speaking rights, and community involvement tools.

The ideal candidate will have a degree or equivalent experience, demonstrable knowledge of local government administrative law and democratic services practice, and hands-on experience with committee management systems such as modern.gov.
