Job Description
Darlington Children’s Services are implementing a number of pilots as part of the Families First reforms within children’s social care, and are seeking a Specialist Family Support Worker to join their Children with Disabilities Team.
This is an alternatively qualified (non-social worker) role supporting children who require statutory help and support to ensure their needs are met. You will work directly with children, families, carers, and multi-agency professionals, playing a key part in shaping future service design within this area.
Key responsibilities include completing assessments of children’s care and support needs, developing care plans, chairing reviews of paid services, and providing Social Care Advice for children undergoing an EHCP assessment. You will work in genuine partnership with parents, carers, children, and wider professionals throughout.
The role is 37 hours per week, with any additional hours claimable as TOIL. Darlington operates a blended working approach, with a base at the Town Hall, Darlington (DL1 5QT), alongside home working subject to service and diary requirements — with the expectation that direct face-to-face support with families and children is maintained.
Rate: £21.02 per hour. Start date: 28 June 2026, via Comensura.
If you hold a relevant social care qualification (non-social work) and have experience working with children with disabilities, we would love to hear from you.
