Childrens Advanced Practitioner – Initial Assessment Service – #5297553

Job Description

Gateshead Council is seeking a qualified Childrens Advanced Practitioner to join its Initial Assessment Service on a locum basis, based at the Civic Centre, NE8 1HH. The rate is £34.45 per hour, with a start date of 28 May 2026.

This role focuses on short-term assessment work, completing child and family assessments and child protection enquiries within the initial assessment service. Please note that from October 2026 the service is due to transition to a throughput team model, undertaking both short- and long-term work as part of wider social care reforms — successful candidates should be aware of and comfortable with this planned change.

Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Advanced Practitioner-level experience in children’s assessment services is essential.
