Job Description

Trafford Council is seeking an experienced Best Interests Assessor (BIA) to provide short-term capacity within its adult services, covering maternity leave and temporary workforce gaps. This is a vital role ensuring continuity of statutory DoLS assessment work during a period of reduced staffing.

Working from Waterside House, Sale, M33 7ZF, you will undertake timely Best Interests Assessments in line with the Mental Capacity Act and DoLS legislation, completing high-quality, evidence-based assessments and reports across a varied caseload. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals and care providers, helping to maintain internal assessment capacity and reduce reliance on external providers.

Essential requirements: qualified Social Worker, Nurse, OT, or Psychologist holding the BIA qualification; demonstrable experience completing DoLS assessments within a local authority setting; strong working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards; ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities; excellent report-writing and analytical skills. Familiarity with Liquid Logic or a similar case management system is desirable.

Rate: £32 per hour. Start: 25 May 2026. End: 31 July 2026.
