Job Description

Newport City Council is seeking a qualified Adults Social Worker to join their Adult Services team, based at the Civic Centre in Newport, South Wales. This is a varied and rewarding role working across a range of adult care pathways, with a particular focus on individuals with learning disabilities.

You will be responsible for assessing and reviewing adults with learning disabilities, managing complex cases, and supporting individuals through front door, community, and hospital discharge pathways. A strengths-based, person-centred approach underpins the team’s practice, and you will need confidence in managing risk alongside competing caseload demands.

Key requirements include experience working within relevant legislation including the Mental Capacity Act 2005, an understanding of safeguarding adults frameworks and departmental policy, and the ability to analyse information quickly and communicate effectively with colleagues, outside agencies, and clients. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is expected.

The successful candidate will hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. A commitment to personal and professional development, confidentiality, and achieving positive outcomes for individuals and carers is essential.
