Job Description
Barnsley Council is seeking an experienced Family Support Worker to join its children’s social work teams on a fixed-term basis from 13 May to 13 November 2026, based at Worsbrough Lift Building, Barnsley (S70 5DJ). Paying £18.35 per hour.
Working alongside qualified social workers and reporting directly to the Team Manager, you will undertake tasks identified by the lead practitioner to provide practical and emotional support to children and their families. Your work will be diverse and responsive, encompassing direct one-to-one work with children and parents, home visits, crisis support, and leading parent-child activities to promote attachment and child development. You will also supervise family time for children in local authority care.
The ideal candidate will be innovative, creative, and committed to putting the child and family at the heart of their practice. You will bring experience of building honest, open, and positive working relationships with children and families, a familiarity with strengths-based approaches, and strong professional boundaries. You must be flexible and willing to work outside office hours when required, with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with professionals and partner agencies.
