Job Description
Central Bedfordshire Council is recruiting experienced Childrens Social Workers to join the Family Help Team on a hybrid contract based in Shefford/Dunstable, Central Bedfordshire (SG17 5TQ). Rate: £29.28–£39.00 per hour. Start date: 8 June 2026. 37 hours per week.
Central Bedfordshire is a Good and award-winning local authority with ambitions to reach Outstanding, and its Families First model means Social Workers in Family Help support children from assessment onwards — building meaningful relationships with families and creating lasting change.
The role involves managing a varied caseload encompassing child in need, child protection, and court work, with a focus on reducing the number of children entering local authority care. You will visit families, complete direct work with children to understand their views and lived experiences, chair multi-agency meetings, and liaise with a wide range of partner agencies.
You will need at least five years’ post-qualifying experience, a thorough understanding of social work theories and models, excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to produce high-quality assessments and reports, and court experience (essential). Social Work England registration is required.
