Adults Advanced Practitioner – Adult Social Care – #OR102064

May 12, 2026
£30 - £38 / hour

Job Description

Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Advanced Practitioner to join their Adult Social Care service, based in Birkenhead. This is a senior-level, complex-case role carrying a rate of £29.76–£38.38 per hour, available from 26 May 2026 via Prism.

Reporting to the Senior Manager for Adult Social Care (Grade PO10), you will take a lead role in ensuring that operational social work practice involving safeguarding, adult protection, and high-level risk meets the highest possible standard. You will manage a complex caseload involving multiple safeguarding incidents, critical decision-making around investigation and protection, and Court of Protection applications. You will work alongside practitioners on particularly complex cases, chair adult protection operational meetings, and authorise and quality-assure reports, assessments, and court documentation.

Additional responsibilities include developing safeguarding best practice, leading on peer review and learning initiatives, contributing to service planning at both operational and strategic levels, and supporting the induction of new staff in relation to safeguarding.

Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification (Degree or DipSW) and be currently registered with Social Work England. Substantial post-qualification experience in a statutory adults or health setting is essential, along with up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding legislation, mental capacity, and Court of Protection processes. The role requires flexibility to work across a rota covering five out of seven days, including evenings and weekends where required, with travel across and beyond the borough.
