Job Description

Are you a qualified Social Worker passionate about making a real difference for children and families in Herefordshire?

Herefordshire Council is recruiting a Social Worker to join its Assessment Team, based at Plough Lane, Hereford (HR4 0LE). This is a permanent post with a salary of £36,363–£40,777 per annum, plus a market rate supplement of £5,000 per annum, a welcome payment of £10,000, a retention payment of £2,000–£4,000, and relocation support of up to £10,000.

As the first point of contact for children, young people, and families, you will complete timely, high-quality assessments to identify strengths and needs, determine the most appropriate support or intervention, and ensure children’s voices remain central to every decision. You will investigate concerns, respond to referrals in a child-focused and timely manner, and work collaboratively with families, colleagues across the Directorate, and partner agencies to deliver early help and decisive action where necessary.

The ideal candidate is resilient, reflective, and confident in managing complex situations. You will hold a recognised Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW, or CQSW) and be registered with Social Work England.
