*Children’s Social Worker – Kinship Assessment Team – #000AF1AD1

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Children’s Social Worker to join Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council on an immediate-start basis, undertaking vital kinship assessments within the children’s services function.

This is a full-time, fixed-term locum position running from 18th May to 20th July 2026, based at Piccadilly, Stockport (SK1 3XE), offering £35 per hour.

You will be responsible for assessing kinship carers to determine their suitability to care for children who cannot remain with their parents, ensuring the best outcomes for looked-after children and their wider family networks. A sound knowledge of fostering and kinship frameworks is essential, and you will be expected to produce high-quality assessments that withstand scrutiny at panel level.

Candidates must be able to provide a full five-year employment reference history; any gaps in employment will be explored. All relevant qualifications will be verified as per the job description and person specification.

Requirements:
– Recognised Social Work qualification (BA/MA Social Work or equivalent)
– Registration with Social Work England
– Demonstrable fostering or kinship assessment experience
– Ability to start immediately
