Job Description

Are you a committed and experienced Children’s Social Worker looking for your next contract role in the Wigan area? Wigan Council is seeking a dedicated practitioner to join their Locality, Duty, CWD & The Hub service, based at Leigh Town Hall, from 18th May 2026 through to 3rd August 2026, at a rate of £38 per hour.

In this varied and impactful role, you will support children, young people, and families through long-term planning and safeguarding interventions. You will hold a mixed caseload encompassing Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Children Looked After (CLA) cases, including work within the court arena. Multi-agency collaboration and high-quality case management are central to the role.

This is a hybrid position offering a flexible blend of home working and office-based attendance, enabling you to balance direct work with effective case oversight. You will play a key part in promoting positive outcomes and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the children and families you work with.

Candidates must hold a recognised Social Work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and be able to provide five years of references with any gaps in employment history accounted for. Compliance with DfE Recommendation Compliance Questions is a mandatory requirement prior to submission via XMS.
