Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Social Worker to join Children’s Services based at Westgate Community College, Newcastle upon Tyne (NE4 9LU). This is a locum position offering a competitive rate of £31.74 per hour, available from 26th April 2026.

Working within a busy and dedicated children’s social work team, you will hold a varied caseload covering the full range of children’s social care work. You will be expected to work to the highest professional standards, maintaining child-centred practice and contributing positively to outcomes for children and young people in the local area.

Key responsibilities will include undertaking assessments, managing and reviewing cases, attending and contributing to multi-agency meetings, completing statutory visits, maintaining accurate case recordings, and working collaboratively with partner agencies to safeguard children and promote their welfare.

The successful candidate will be a qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable post-qualifying experience in a children’s social work setting. You will possess strong assessment and communication skills, the ability to manage a demanding workload, and a commitment to reflective practice.

This role is offered on a locum basis, making it well suited to experienced practitioners seeking flexible working within the North East region. The team is based at Westgate Community College, Newcastle, providing a stable and supportive working environment.
