April 21, 2026
£31 - £42 / hour

Job Description

Are you an experienced, HCPC-registered Social Worker with a passion for safeguarding children and driving excellence in child protection practice? We are seeking a Child Protection Conference Chair to join a busy Children’s Social Care service, occupying a senior consultancy position within the Local Authority.

In this pivotal independent role, you will hold primary responsibility for quality assurance of fieldwork services, chairing child protection conferences and Young Persons’ Safety (contextual harm) plan meetings. You will make robust, evidence-based decisions regarding Child Protection Plans in line with national, pan-London, and local procedures.

Key responsibilities include: independently chairing child protection conferences; rigorously monitoring and tracking child protection plans; conducting regular file audits and inspections of fieldwork services; providing expert consultation and challenge to social workers, team managers, and partner agencies; utilising the Disputes Resolution Process to improve outcomes; promoting the full participation of children and families in conferences; and, on occasion, supporting the Local Authority Designated Officer with allegations against staff and volunteers, including chairing ASV strategy meetings.

You will maintain strict independence from line management, courageously challenging poor practice and championing high standards across the service.

Candidates must hold a recognised Social Work or Social Care qualification with current HCPC registration, and be able to demonstrate significant post-qualifying experience in children in need, child protection, and looked-after children settings. Experience of multi-agency working and leading or managing staff in a child protection context is essential.

If you are ready to make a meaningful difference to outcomes for children and families, apply today.
