The candidate will manage sessional youth outreach workers whose role is as follows: We are a dedicated youth engagement service committed to making a positive impact in the lives of young people in the community. Our mission is to provide support, guidance, and opportunities through outreach and community engagement support. We are seeking enthusiastic and experienced Detached Youth Outreach Workers to join our team. If you are you passionate about improving the lives of young people and you have the confidence and enthusiasm to engage with young people in the community, we are looking for Detached Youth Outreach Youth Workers, who have the natural ability to build positive rapport with young people in the community. The role will include signposting young people to positive youth activities, delivering workshops in schools & in the community, reducing community tensions through detached youth work. The successful candidates will be responsible for delivering group work programmes, deploying youth outreach initiatives, and have strong community engagement skills. This role requires a proactive approach to engaging with young people in their own environments, building trust, and providing support tailored to their needs. Responsibilities will include planning, deliver, and evaluate group work programmes. Completing detached youth outreach sessions. Building and maintain positive relationships with young people, their families, and community stakeholders. Identify and respond to the needs of young people, providing appropriate support and referrals. You will need to have proven experience in youth work, particularly in detached or outreach settings. A good understanding of the issues affecting young people and the ability to engage them effectively. Great communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility to work during the day, evenings and weekends as required as working hours are Monday-Saturday between 12.00pm – 9.00 pm – at various locations across the Borough. They will also manage staff who complete the following: Are based in Walworth Police Custody Suite and Brixton Police Custody Suite. Workers will complete shift work. We are operational Monday to Friday 9 am – 7 pm and Saturday 11 am – 7 pm. Shift times are Monday to Friday 9 am – 5 pm or 11am – 7 pm. Saturday shift is 11 am – 7 pm. Staff will complete a 35-hour week in line with the shift timings. Staff work 5 days. Monday to Friday or Monday to Thursday – off Friday and working Saturday. This post is in person – you are not able to work from home. The role will entail contact being made with the custody suites throughout your shift time to check to see if any child has been arrested and is presented in the custody suite. The worker will attend the custody suite timely to meet with the child and complete a short screening with them and talk to them regarding what diversion support can be offered to prevent further arrests. Should the child and parent consent to diversion work being completed, the worker will be allocated the work, which will include meeting with the child, completing a short intervention – 3-4 sessions and then signposting them to community provisions and positive activities. Caseloads will be approximately 10 + and all diversion interventions are 3 – 5 sessions. Knowledge of Mosaic recording system and Core + is preferable. Being able to motivate and speak with children at a vulnerable/teachable moment is key to this role. The candidate will work Monday to Saturday – but will work 5 days – not 6. You will be out with your outreach team and will also cover in the Police Custody Suite. Candidates will need to have a current Enhanced DBS which will need to be seen prior to the offer of an interview. Candidates will need to be able to start imminently.
