Job Description
Are you a dedicated Children’s Social Worker with a passion for supporting young people through some of the most complex and critical stages of their lives? Knowsley’s Looked After Service is seeking an experienced, qualified practitioner to join their Young Persons Team (14–18), based in Huyton, Merseyside.
This is a demanding but rewarding role in a fast-paced team where relational practice sits at the heart of everything. You will hold a caseload of young people aged 14–18 in care, delivering high-quality social work that promotes safety, stability, and positive futures as they transition towards adulthood.
Key responsibilities include managing care planning and case reviews within statutory timescales, undertaking robust risk assessments and developing individualised safety plans, applying contextual safeguarding frameworks around exploitation, missing episodes, and peer-related harm, and preparing analytical reports for reviews and court. You will build consistent, trauma-informed relationships with young people who may be resistant or disengaged, lead on pathway planning for those approaching adulthood, and collaborate closely with education, health, police, youth justice, and residential providers.
Candidates must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience working with adolescents in complex, high-risk settings is essential, as is a strong grasp of contextual safeguarding, risk management, and relational practice approaches.
The role is offered on a locum basis at £23.75–£31.15 per hour, starting 22 June 2026, via Prism. If you are resilient, analytically strong, and committed to making a real difference for some of Knowsley’s most vulnerable young people, we want to hear from you. Contact us today to find out more.
