Job Description

Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking a Social Work Assistant to join their Children’s Services team based in Aston, Birmingham (B6 4DU). This is a temporary role paying £13.70–£17.65 per hour via Prism, starting 20 July 2026.

Working under the direction of a Team Manager and qualified Social Workers, you will undertake direct work with children, young people and families, support assessments and care planning, and maintain accurate case records on electronic management systems. Day-to-day duties include supervising family contact sessions, completing home and welfare visits, supporting children to attend appointments and health assessments, liaising with schools, health professionals and police, and contributing to statutory documentation such as chronologies and reports.

The role requires a flexible approach across varying work locations and occasional out-of-hours attendance. A full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle, and valid business use motor insurance are essential.

Essential: experience working with children, young people and/or families; understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles; strong written and verbal communication; good IT skills and ability to maintain electronic records. A relevant qualification in health, social care or childcare is desirable, as is prior experience within children’s social care.
