Job Description

Wakefield Council is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Personal Adviser to join its Leaving Care Service on a temporary contract from 27 July 2026 to 17 January 2027, based at Lake Lock Road, Stanley, Wakefield (WF3 4HU) at £16.62 per hour. The role is office-based 60% of the time.

You will provide practical and emotional support to young people aged 16–25 who are transitioning from care to independent adulthood, helping them build the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to live independently. Key responsibilities include developing and reviewing Pathway Plans, advocating on behalf of young people, and working with partner agencies to secure the best outcomes across areas including accommodation, education, employment, health, financial management, and community connections.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with young people, vulnerable adults, or families, and will demonstrate an understanding of the challenges faced by care-experienced young people. Strong communication, organisation, and relationship-building skills are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
