Job Description
The London Borough of Sutton is seeking a qualified Occupational Therapist to join its Adult First Contact Service (AFCS), operating at the ‘front door’ of Adult Social Care in Sutton (SM1 1EA).
This is a pivotal preventative role. Based within a multidisciplinary duty team alongside Social Workers and health partners, you will screen and triage complex incoming referrals, applying professional judgement to determine the most appropriate pathway for each individual. You will deliver person-centred, strength-based assessments at first point of contact, focusing on independence and well-being, and provide professional guidance and quality assurance to Enabling Independence Officers and Trusted Assessors.
Key responsibilities include recommending equipment and minor and major adaptations, undertaking proportionate assessments for community support, processing complex major adaptations (structural alterations, through-floor lifts, specialist equipment), liaising with Housing, Environmental Health, and other Council departments, and presenting cases to the OT Quality Assurance Panel.
Candidates must hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration. Significant experience in a Local Authority or community duty setting is strongly preferred, along with demonstrable knowledge of strength-based approaches, the Care Act 2014, the Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding in adult social care.
