Job Description
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is seeking a Support Assistant (Libraries) based at Central Library, Merthyr Tydfil. This temporary role runs from 24 August 2026 at a rate of £96.57–£129.90 per day, sourced via Prism.
The post supports the Principal, Operational Librarians and Member Advisors in delivering a consistent, high-quality library service that meets Welsh Public Library Standards. Day-to-day duties include manning issue and enquiry desks, answering user enquiries, maintaining shelving sequences, assisting with stock control and inter-library loans, facilitating events and meetings (including setting up spaces, providing refreshments, and opening/closing buildings), assisting ICT users in group and individual settings, handling cash and card payments, and maintaining accurate and confidential library user records.
The role involves regular physical tasks: moving and filing stock, frequent bending, lifting and carrying, and navigating multi-storey buildings not fully designed for disabled access.
Essential requirements include Welsh Language Level 1, IT competency, and a minimum of 3 GCSEs including English Language (or equivalent BTEC or demonstrable experience). Customer service experience is desirable. Welsh Language Level 2–5 would be an advantage.
