Job Description

Darlington Borough Council is piloting an innovative Family Help model and is seeking a Social Care Qualified Family Support Worker to join their newly formed Family Help Team, based at the Town Hall, Darlington (DL1 5QT).

This is an exciting opportunity to work directly with children and families under a Child in Need remit. You will undertake children and families assessments, hold CIN cases, complete CIN Reviews, and carry out direct work with children and families. Regular multi-agency working is a key feature of the role.

Darlington operates a blended working approach. Following an initial four-week office-based induction, you will have the flexibility to manage your own diary, completing visits and direct work with families whilst choosing where to spend office-based time — either at home or at the Town Hall. All remote working equipment is provided. A valid driving licence and use of a car are essential.

Support is a priority: you will receive regular reflective supervision from the Team Manager, with mentoring and coaching available to support your transition into the role. You will work alongside alternatively qualified practitioners and social workers within a collaborative team environment.

Previous experience of working with children and families is essential. This post is open to alternatively qualified workers (social care qualified) and runs from 14 September to 31 December 2026, at a rate of £21.02 per hour.
