Job Description

Wirral Council’s Children’s Services is seeking an experienced Family Support Worker to join its Early Help & Prevention service, based in Birkenhead. This is a temporary role paying £17.07–£21.87 per hour via Prism, starting 29 June 2026.

Working across the 0–19 age continuum, you will deliver evidence-based interventions to children, young people and families, preventing escalation of need and improving life outcomes. You will manage a diverse caseload, undertaking holistic assessments, developing individual support plans, and acting as Lead Professional within Team Around the Family (TAF) frameworks. Work is delivered in family homes, community venues and group settings, with flexibility required across seven days including evenings and weekends.

Key responsibilities include: multi-agency partnership working; facilitating parenting and nurture groups; supporting safeguarding and child protection procedures; maintaining accurate case records in the case management system; attending court as a witness where required; and participating in supervision and reflective practice.

Essential requirements: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in social care, childcare, health or a related field; proven experience working directly with children and families aged 0–19; experience managing complex caseloads; and a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection frameworks. A driving licence and ability to travel across the Wirral Borough is required.
