Job Description
Sefton MBC is recruiting a Family Support Worker to join their Children’s Social Care service, based at Trinity Road, Bootle, Merseyside (L20 3NJ). This is a temporary role paying £17.37–£22.68 per hour, starting 27 July 2026.
In this role you will provide practical and social support to children aged 0–25 and their families, contributing to care packages and supporting qualified social workers across Child Protection, Children in Need, and Looked After Children care plans. Key duties include direct work with children and families in the home and community, undertaking welfare checks and home visits, promoting and supervising family contact, identifying and reporting safeguarding risks, supporting Section 47 enquiries, and providing crisis intervention including overnight stays where required to prevent accommodation.
You will maintain high-quality records on the council’s children’s database, liaise with statutory, voluntary, and community partner agencies, and contribute to family-led planning and court-directed work.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working with vulnerable children and young people in a social care or family support setting, a sound understanding of child development and safeguarding frameworks, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. This role does not require a qualified social work registration.
