Job Description

Denbighshire County Council is recruiting a Cook for a residential care home within its Adult Social Care & Homelessness service in Ruthin, Denbighshire. This is a temporary role paying £14.59–£18.90 per hour, starting 4 September 2026.

Reporting to the Residential Care Home Manager, you will run a busy kitchen providing freshly prepared, high-quality, nutritious meals for residents — many of whom are physically or mentally frail with special dietary requirements. You will ensure full compliance with food safety standards, HACCP procedures, and all associated documentation, while supervising a kitchen assistant and assistant cook.

Key responsibilities include planning and ordering, delegating kitchen tasks, maintaining hygiene standards, attending residents’ and staff meetings, and contributing to training as required.

Essential requirements: experience in food preparation and cooking, a basic food hygiene certificate, good communication skills, ability to work on own initiative, and awareness of health and safety and confidentiality. Welsh language skills are desirable (Level 1). All appointments are subject to DBS clearance, two satisfactory references, and evidence of right to work in the UK.
