Job Description
Denbighshire County Council is seeking an experienced Cook to join their Adult Social Care & Homelessness service at a residential care home in Ruthin, Denbighshire. This is a temporary role paying £14.59–£18.90 per hour, starting 28 August 2026.
You will run a busy kitchen providing freshly prepared, high-quality, nutritious meals for residents, many of whom are physically or mentally frail and may have special dietary requirements. Working alongside an assistant cook and kitchen assistants, you will maintain the highest standards of food safety and hygiene, including full HACCP compliance and completion of all required documentation.
Key responsibilities include planning and preparing wholesome meals to meet varied dietary needs, supervising and delegating to kitchen staff, efficient ordering and stock management, and contributing to resident and staff meetings. You will handle kitchen equipment safely and adhere to health and safety, manual handling, and confidentiality requirements.
Essential requirements include proven experience as a cook, a basic food hygiene certificate, and the ability to work on your own initiative. Experience of supervising staff and working in a busy care-setting kitchen is desirable, as are additional catering qualifications (NVQ/QCF). Welsh language skills at level 1 are desirable. All new starters must complete standard safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS, two satisfactory references, and evidence of the right to work in the UK.
