Job Description
Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a dedicated Childrens Social Worker to join its Kinship Team, based in Ashton-under-Lyne (OL6 7SG). This is a temporary locum post running from 24 August to 30 October 2026, paying £35 per hour via XMS.
Working within the Kinship Team, you will undertake comprehensive assessments of kinship carers and special guardians, supporting children to remain within their family networks wherever safe and appropriate. You will carry out direct work with children, family members, and carers, contributing to care planning that reflects each child’s individual needs and circumstances.
Key responsibilities include preparing high-quality reports for court and decision-making panels, working collaboratively with multi-agency partners throughout the assessment process, providing advice and guidance to families, and ensuring all statutory responsibilities are met to the highest professional standard. You will also contribute to service development and maintain excellent case recording.
The successful candidate will be a qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience in kinship, fostering, adoption, or SGO assessments. A commitment to relationship-based practice and keeping children connected to their family networks is essential.
