Childrens Social Worker – Family Safeguarding Services – #OR103963

June 2, 2026
£31 - £42 / hour

Job Description

Swindon Borough Council is seeking experienced Social Workers to join its Family Safeguarding Service on a locum basis, based at Civic Campus, Euclid Street, Swindon, SN1 2JG. Paying £31.25–£42.02 per hour, with a start date of 29 June 2026.

The team operates within a pod structure, with five Social Workers and one Manager per pod, providing strong management oversight and peer support. You will undertake comprehensive parenting and child and family assessments, develop outcome-focused care plans, and progress care proceedings through both private and public law courts. You will drive permanency planning — including adoption — within court timescales, and evidence clear analytical judgement in case records when responding to complex risk.

Candidates must be qualified Social Workers registered with Social Work England and hold demonstrable experience in child protection and court work. Candidates residing more than 50 miles from Swindon are eligible for a flat-rate expense allowance of £100 per week towards accommodation or mileage. Swindon Borough Council has confirmed this allowance will remain in place for all new and existing agency placements within Children’s Social Care until 31 August 2026.
