Childrens Social Worker – Family Help Team – #OR110579

July 31, 2026
£22 - £31 / hour

Job Description

Herefordshire Council is seeking a passionate, qualified Social Worker to join its Family Help locality team in Hereford, rated ‘Outstanding Leadership’ by Ofsted. This is a 3-month contract (with extension potential) at up to £30.57 per hour, 37 hours per week.

Working within a locality-based Family Help team, you will hold and manage a complex caseload as the Family Help Lead Practitioner, delivering statutory support and intervention to children and families. You will assess needs and risk, develop tailored Family Help Plans, and chair or contribute to Child in Need, core group, and strategy meetings. Where child protection concerns arise, you will work in partnership with the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT). Court work, report writing, and accurate case recording are core expectations of the role. Practice is grounded in the Children Act 1989, Children Act 2004, and Working Together 2026, within the Families First Programme framework.

Herefordshire is proud of its restorative approach to social work, with collaboration and reflective practice embedded in team culture. Senior managers are actively available for guidance on complex casework.

You will hold a Social Work degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent, be registered with Social Work England, and have a minimum of 3 years’ post-qualifying experience in a statutory children and families setting. Strong assessment, safeguarding, and communication skills are essential.
