Job Description
Herefordshire Council is seeking a passionate qualified Social Worker to join its Family Help South Locality team, based in Ross on Wye. This is a permanent, full-time position (37 hours per week) offering a salary of £36,363–£40,777 per annum, plus a £5,000 market rate supplement, a £10,000 welcome payment, a £2,000–£4,000 retention payment, and a relocation package of up to £10,000.
In this role you will act as Family Help Lead Practitioner, holding a complex caseload of children, young people, and families. You will assess needs, identify risks, and develop tailored Family Help Plans, working alongside partner agencies to deliver coordinated, multi-agency support. Responsibilities include chairing and contributing to Child in Need meetings, core groups, strategy discussions, and safeguarding work through the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT). Court work, report writing, and accurate case recording are integral to the role.
Herefordshire operates a restorative approach to social work, with collaboration and reflective practice embedded in team culture. Senior managers are readily available for guidance on complex cases, and clear career progression pathways are supported by protected CPD time and budget.
Candidates must hold a Social Work degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent and hold current Social Work England registration. Experience in a statutory children and families setting, with a sound knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and relevant legislation including the Children Act 1989 and Children Act 2004 is required.
