Job Description
Herefordshire Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join its Family Help locality team based in Ross-on-Wye, on a 3-month contract (with extension possible) at £30.57 per hour for 37 hours per week.
This is a meaningful front-line role working with children, young people, and their families to deliver help, protection, and intervention under a restorative practice model — an approach firmly embedded in team culture and supported by visible, accessible senior leadership. Herefordshire’s children’s services hold an Ofsted rating of Outstanding for leadership.
You will hold and manage a complex caseload as a Family Help Lead Practitioner, undertaking needs assessments, developing Family Help Plans, and working alongside partner agencies including the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT) where safeguarding concerns arise. Day-to-day duties include chairing and contributing to Child in Need, core group, and strategy meetings; undertaking risk assessments; writing high-quality records and court reports; and supporting children in the looked-after system.
Candidates must hold a Social Work degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent, be currently registered with Social Work England, and bring a minimum of three years’ post-qualifying experience in a statutory children and families setting. Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Children Act 2004, and Working Together 2026 is required.
If you are a skilled, values-driven social worker committed to making a real difference for children and families, apply today.
