July 31, 2026
£22 - £31 / hour

Job Description

Herefordshire Council is seeking a passionate and dedicated qualified Social Worker to join the Family Help North Locality team, based at The Priory in Leominster. This is a 3-month contract (with the chance of extension) offering up to £30.57 per hour for 37 hours per week, available from 21 August 2026.

You will work closely with children, young people, and their families to deliver support and intervention services aimed at promoting wellbeing, safety, and positive outcomes for children with a Family Help plan. Acting as the Family Help Lead Practitioner, you will assess needs, identify risks, and develop tailored Family Help Plans in partnership with multi-agency colleagues, including the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT) where safeguarding concerns arise.

Key responsibilities include chairing and contributing to Child in Need meetings, core group and strategy discussions, risk assessments, court work, and accurate case recording. The team operates a firmly embedded restorative approach, with senior managers readily available for guidance on complex cases.

Candidates must hold a Social Work degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent, be currently registered with Social Work England, and have a minimum of 3 years’ statutory children and families experience. A strong grasp of safeguarding, child protection legislation (Children Act 1989 and 2004, Working Together 2026), and the Families First Programme is essential.

If you are a skilled, resilient social worker committed to achieving meaningful outcomes for children and families, please get in touch today.
