Job Description
Newport City Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join its Children Services team in Newport, South Wales (NP20), on a contracted basis from 15 June 2026 at a rate of £29.22–£39.16 per hour via Prism.
This role sits at the heart of assessment and care management for children and young people, requiring you to manage a complex caseload in line with current legislation and Social Services policies. You will receive and act on referrals allocated by the team manager or senior practitioner, carrying out assessments — including carer assessments — within timescales, and contributing to outcome-focused care plans grounded in best practice.
Key responsibilities include engaging and empowering service users, carers, and support networks to deliver person-centred interventions; preparing and presenting court reports as required; working in partnership with health and other professionals; and providing written and verbal reports to monitor plan implementation and outcomes. You will also support the team manager and senior practitioner in embedding best practice and a shared understanding of child protection across the team.
Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England (or equivalent). Experience managing complex children and families caseloads, familiarity with child protection processes, and the ability to work effectively within a multi-agency environment are essential.
