Job Description

Wrexham County Borough Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Children’s Social Worker to join their Child Protection team, based at 31 Chester Street, Wrexham (LL13 8BG). This is a temporary locum role starting 20 July 2026.

Please note: the advertised day rate is incorrect pending amendment. The correct rate is £33 per hour (PAYE) or approximately £41 per hour via umbrella.

You will work directly with children and families subject to Child Protection Plans and CASP, undertaking statutory assessments, care and support planning, and direct work to reduce risk and improve outcomes. The role requires confident, autonomous practice at child protection and care proceedings level, including court work where required, within a multi-agency context.

The team promotes a reflective, supportive culture with regular supervision, strong peer support, and a genuine focus on staff wellbeing and inclusive practice.

Ideal candidates will bring strong assessment skills, sound knowledge of safeguarding thresholds, and a demonstrable commitment to anti-discriminatory, child-centred practice. Social Work England registration is essential.
