Job Description
Blackpool Council’s Children’s Services are rated Outstanding by Ofsted — one of only two local authorities in the North West to hold that distinction. This is a compelling opportunity to join a high-performing, values-driven service.
The Assessment and Support Team undertakes Child and Family Assessments, supports children and families via Child in Need Plans on a short-term basis, and ensures partner agencies provide ongoing Early Help support. The team also undertakes S47 child protection enquiries, Section 7 private family court proceedings, supports families in preparing for Initial Child Protection Conferences, and where necessary commences Initial Care Proceedings. Joint assessments with Housing regarding homeless young people are also part of the role.
Blackpool uses a restorative, strengths-based, co-produced approach — ‘Blackpool Families Rock’ — working with families rather than doing things to them. You will build trusted relationships with children and families, working in a child-focused way that supports the whole family unit.
You will receive regular supervision, support from the Practice Development Team, excellent training opportunities, and access to the tools and resources needed for day-to-day practice.
This is a 37-hour, 12-week locum post based at Talbot Gateway, Blackpool town centre, at £39 per hour. Start date 24 August 2026. Social Work England registration required. Five years’ references and employment history checks apply. DfE Recommendation Compliance Questions must be completed prior to submission.
If you are passionate about making a difference for children and families, apply now.
