Job Description

Oldham Council is seeking a qualified Childrens Social Worker to join the Assessment and Intervention Team based at Royton Town Hall, Oldham. This is a temporary locum engagement running from 27 July to 1 September 2026, paying £39 per hour via XMS.

You will manage a caseload of vulnerable children and young people, conducting single assessments, risk assessments, and needs assessments to co-produce whole-family care plans. You will intervene directly to safeguard children at risk, manage electronic case files, and produce professional reports for decision-making forums. Working in partnership with schools, police, and health agencies, you will also provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced colleagues and students.

The team is described as friendly and supportive, with free parking available at Royton Town Hall.

Requirements: a degree in Social Work, active Social Work England registration, and a completed ASYE. You must have a proven track record managing child in need and child protection cases and conducting detailed assessments. Strong crisis-resolution skills, analytical judgement, and IT proficiency are essential. An enhanced DBS check, valid driver’s licence (or independent means of mobility), and flexibility for occasional unsocial hours are also required.
