Job Description

A passionate and experienced Senior Assessing Social Worker is sought to join Tameside MBC’s Kinship Team on a temporary basis (31 August – 30 October 2026), paying £35–£39 per hour.

This is a rewarding role at the heart of kinship and special guardianship work, helping children remain connected to their family networks whilst achieving safe, stable, and nurturing care arrangements. You will undertake comprehensive assessments of kinship carers and special guardians, producing high-quality analysis and recommendations that drive positive outcomes for children.

Key responsibilities include building meaningful relationships with children, family members and carers; ensuring children’s voices remain central to all decision-making; preparing robust reports for court and decision-making panels; and collaborating with multi-agency partners to meet all statutory duties. You will work closely with Team and Service Managers to support best practice and contribute to service development.

As a Senior Practitioner you will bring professional curiosity and a commitment to relationship-based practice, helping families identify strengths and build lasting support networks. A recognised social work qualification and registration with Social Work England are essential. Experience in kinship, fostering, SGO assessments or children and families work is highly desirable.
