Job Description

Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker or Advanced Practitioner to join its Intervention & Planning Team, based in Colindale, NW9. This is a statutory children’s social care role operating within a Resilience framework, offering £27.32–£37.54 per hour via Prism, commencing 3 August 2026.

You will hold a complex caseload of children and families, providing high-level assessment, planning, and safeguarding interventions in situations involving multi-agency complexity, significant risk factors, and intricate family dynamics. You will present evidence at court, liaise with foster carers, police, and partner agencies, and ensure all statutory timescales and performance targets are met.

A key aspect of this role is practice leadership: you will deputise for the line manager when required, mentor less experienced social workers, and act as a Practice Educator and assessor for NQSWs undertaking their ASYE. You will be expected to hold or work towards the Practice Educators Award within your first year.

Candidates must hold substantial post-qualifying experience in statutory children’s social care and maintain current Social Work England (or equivalent statutory body) registration. Competency across the Knowledge and Skills Statements for Child and Family Social Workers, including Achieving Permanence, is essential.
