Job Description

Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking an experienced and qualified Senior Social Worker to join their Child Protection Inquiry Team in Aston, Birmingham (B6 4DU) on an initial 3-month agency contract (start date 31 August 2026), with potential for extension. Rate: £22.50–£30.57 per hour.

This fast-paced, short-term service is responsible for completing Section 47 enquiries and, where appropriate, 15-day Section 17 assessments. The team does not hold long-term cases — once enquiries and assessments are complete, cases transfer to longer-term teams. Social workers also participate in a duty rota every four weeks for incoming safeguarding referrals. Caseloads are intentionally low (typically three to four children), enabling practitioners to deliver timely, high-quality assessments.

Candidates must be qualified and registered Social Workers with experience in safeguarding or assessment services, confident in completing Section 47 enquiries, and able to work independently under pressure. Strong references are required, and access to a car is desirable as the role involves statutory home visits across Birmingham.

The team is based at One Avenue Road, Aston, with free on-site parking. Hybrid working is offered, with an expectation of two office days per week. A structured induction, supportive management, and access to a wide range of free CPD and Social Work England registration support are provided.
