Job Description

Herefordshire Council is seeking a qualified Senior Practitioner to join its Family Help locality team in Hereford (HR4 0LE). This is an initial 3-month contract at £33.30 per hour, 37 hours per week, with 55p per mile business mileage and up to £150 per week accommodation expenses available.

You will work with children, young people, and their families to deliver support and intervention services under Family Help plans, playing a key role in safeguarding and working in partnership with the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT) where concerns arise. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading a complex caseload as Family Help Lead Practitioner, undertaking needs and risk assessments, developing tailored Family Help Plans, chairing and contributing to Child in Need, core group, and strategy meetings, and producing court reports. Work is grounded in the Children Act 1989, Children Act 2004, and Working Together 2026, with a strong restorative practice ethos embedded across the team.

Applicants must hold a Social Work degree, DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent, be currently registered with Social Work England, and have a minimum of three years’ post-qualifying experience in a statutory children and families setting. Confidence in risk analysis, complex family dynamics, and multi-agency working is essential.
