Job Description
Tameside Children’s Services is developing its Multi-Agency Child Protection Team and seeks an experienced Lead Child Protection Practitioner to play an integral role in shaping and strengthening this function. Based in Ashton Under Lyne, this is a temporary role running from 3 August to 1 October 2026, paying £35–£40 per hour via XMS.
In this senior position you will chair strategy meetings from the front door, provide oversight of Section 47 enquiries and guidance on threshold, chair Child Protection Conferences, and quality assure child protection planning across the team.
You will bring a recognised social work qualification with significant frontline child protection experience, strong knowledge of statutory frameworks, and expertise in identifying and responding to all forms of harm including extra-familial harm. You will be confident working collaboratively with families and multi-agency partners to understand and address risks within wider community and peer contexts, with a clear focus on keeping the child’s best interests central to all decision-making, including in complex exploitation contexts.
