Job Description
Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Advanced Practitioner to join its 0-25 Disabilities service, based in Colindale, London (NW9 4EW). This is a locum role paying £27.32–£37.54 per hour, starting 11 August 2026.
Working within a Resilience framework, you will deliver a comprehensive, integrated social work service at an advanced level, responding to complex situations involving disabled children and young people aged 0–25 and their families. You will take a lead role in a specialist area of work in line with departmental policies and procedures, and will deputise for the line manager when required.
Key responsibilities include assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating safeguarding and permanence measures in high-complexity cases, managing elevated levels of risk, and supporting and mentoring less experienced colleagues. You will demonstrate expert practice and operate with a high degree of autonomy.
Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and have substantial post-qualifying experience in a statutory Children’s Social Care setting. A Practice Educators Award is desirable; if not already held, there will be an expectation to achieve it within the first year.
