Job Description

Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Social Worker to join their Adult Social Care service, based in Birkenhead (CH41). This is a hybrid role offering £27.98–£36.08 per hour, commencing 29 July 2026.

You will be responsible for delivering health and social care functions for adults and carers across Wirral, embedding the Care Act 2014, strengths-based practice, personalisation and social inclusion principles. Working within an integrated Multi-Disciplinary Team, you will carry out complex needs-led assessments, care and support planning, safeguarding enquiries, Best Interest Assessments (DoLS), and MASH/MARAC/MAPPA liaison. You will also support the duty and triage function within the Review Team and provide supervision and practice support to NQSWs and Care Navigators (ASYE).

Casework spans older adults, adults with physical health conditions, mental health needs, and carers. You will chair complex multi-agency meetings, submit funding applications, and contribute to community forums promoting positive social work practice.

Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification (Degree/DipSW or equivalent), be registered with Social Work England, and demonstrate substantial post-qualifying experience with complex adult caseloads in a statutory setting. A Best Interest Assessor or Practice Educator qualification is desirable. Ability to travel across the Borough and occasional out-of-hours working are required.
