Job Description

Somerset Council is seeking a qualified Adults Social Worker to join its Adult Services team based in Shepton Mallet, Somerset. This is a locum role paying £27.78–£38.00 per hour via the Prism portal, with a start date of 22 June 2026.

You will hold a varied caseload of adults with complex and differing needs, undertaking risk assessments and care needs assessments, developing and reviewing care plans, and working collaboratively with health colleagues, voluntary agencies, housing, and other statutory partners in a multi-disciplinary setting. Responsibilities include statutory reviews, carer assessments (including young carers), crisis management, Court of Protection applications where capacity is an issue, and contributing to multi-agency working arrangements. You will also provide supervision and coaching to unqualified staff and students as required.

Essential requirements: a recognised Social Work qualification (BA or MA in Social Work or equivalent), current registration with Social Work England, demonstrable community-care assessment experience, strong IT skills, and access to a vehicle. Experience working with adults with Learning Disabilities is desirable, as is supervisory experience.
