The post of Social Worker in the Child Looked after Team, Children’s Services completes a number of functions and statutory duties, to include; child protection and safeguarding in line with the Children Act (1989) and the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) 2014 Act. 

The social worker will co-produce proportionate assessments and Care and Support Plans with families and partner agencies, produce court reports and ensure that children looked after experience permanence which supports them to achieve personal outcomes and make a successfully transition to adulthood. The social worker will hold a case load supporting Children Looked after, children whose names are on the Child Protection. The post requires some court work to respond to applications to court for issues such as contact and for reasons of  revocation

The post holder will pursue enquiries with regard to allegations of child abuse (Children Act 1989 Section 47) and follow Cwm Taf Safeguarding procedures and the All Wales Child Protection procedures.

Safeguarding children within our community, working with children/young people and their families / carers to achieve personal Well-being outcomes.   Supporting families, in collaboration with other key professionals,  through change and signposting to services within the community

 

  1. To provide social work service to Children Looked After, in accordance with legislative and statutory requirements.

     

  2. Undertake individual proportionate assessments, establishing ongoing care and support needs and recommend and develop appropriate targeted interventions that meet the needs of children, young people and their families / carers.

     

  3. Co-produce, implement and review Care and Support plans to ensure that children meet their personal Well-being outcomes (Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014).

 

  1. Work collaboratively with children and families and other agencies to safeguard and promote a child’s safety and overall Well-being.

 

  1. To pursue enquiries with regard to allegations of child abuse and neglect (Children Act 1989 Section 47) and follow Departmental and Cwm Taf Safeguarding Policy and Procedures and All Wales Child Protection procedures.

 

  1. To effectively manage Part 6 Care and support plans for children. This will include undertaking visits to the child, maintaining relationship with parents / carers and families, coordinating and chairing meetings, preparing effectively for CLA review and escalating concern through consultation with Team Manager where there are safeguarding concerns the child. 

 

  1. To be involved in the initiation and the ongoing management of legal proceedings to safeguard a child’s permanence, in consultation with the senior social worker/team manager.

 

  1. Undertaking “duty” responsibilities on a Rota basis and as appropriate or necessary.

  1. Take responsibility for day-to-day organisation of personal case load, in accordance with Departmental and Cwm Taf Safeguarding Children  policies, guidelines and legislative requirements

 

  1. Participate and prepare for individual planned supervision and staff appraisal sessions, seek guidance and informal supervision from a senior social worker or manager when required. 

 

  1. Engage proactively with team meetings, staff briefings and contribute to the development of the service. 

 

  1. Have knowledge and awareness of, and work within the framework of departmental and Cwm Taf  Safeguarding Children Board policies, procedures and practices

 

13. Maintain accurate case recordings and information on the social services database and prepare reports to meet deadlines

 

14. Contribute to establishing professional inter agency networks and relationships

 

15.  To comply with MTCBC employee procedures.  Successful candidate will be subject to safe recruitment procedures.  

 

16. Any other duties as directed by the Corporate Chief Officer (Social Services) or senior nominated officer which may be deemed legal and reasonable at the time of instruction.
