Youth Justice Officer – Manchester

We’re seeking an experienced and passionate Youth Justice Officer to join Manchester’s dedicated Youth Justice Service on a full-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking and committed team that plays a vital role in improving outcomes for children and young people in the city.


About the Role

As part of Manchester’s ongoing journey to deliver on its promise to children and young people, the Youth Justice Service is looking for a high-quality practitioner to support the city’s vision of building safe, happy, and successful futures.

You will play a key role in:

  • Supporting young people involved with the criminal justice system.

  • Working alongside the courts, families, and key partner agencies to ensure effective planning and delivery of interventions.

  • Managing risk, safeguarding vulnerable individuals, and promoting desistance from offending behaviour.


Key Responsibilities

  • Complete timely, accurate assessments and develop high-quality supervision plans.

  • Deliver effective face-to-face interventions with young people and their families.

  • Supervise cases, manage risk, and make appropriate referrals in line with national standards.

  • Collaborate with partners including social care, education, health, and the police to deliver holistic support.

  • Focus on transitions, especially between youth and adult services, including liaising with the Probation Service.


About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in youth justice, probation or criminal justice settings, particularly with transitions and desistance-focused approaches.

  • Confident in handling complex cases and working with multi-agency partners.

  • Motivated and solution-focused, with strong communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Flexible and hands-on, ready to meet the needs of a diverse and dynamic caseload.

  • Qualified to NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent experience in a related field).
