Job Description

Salford City Council is seeking an Agency Advanced Social Work Practitioner to join the Community Learning Disability Team, based at the Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 5AW. This is a full-time locum position running from 28 September 2026 to 3 September 2027, paying £37 per hour.

You will provide expert social work support to adults with learning disabilities, championing person-centred and strengths-based practice whilst managing complex cases. Key responsibilities include chairing section 42 safeguarding enquiries and Making Safeguarding Personal, leading on complex safeguarding and best interests work, chairing MDT and professionals meetings, and providing supervision, coaching and mentoring to team members in the absence of or under direction of the Team Manager. You will carry out statutory social work duties in accordance with the Care Act 2014 and undertake Best Interest Assessor training to embed the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

You will also support newly qualified social workers, practice educators and apprentices, promote critical reflection and professional curiosity, and contribute to the ongoing development of excellent practice standards across the team.

Applicants must be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England, with significant post-qualifying experience in adult services, ideally within learning disabilities.
