Job Description

Lincolnshire County Council’s Emergency Duty Team (EDT) provides a countywide out-of-hours safeguarding service for children, young people, and families requiring urgent intervention outside normal working hours. This is a shift-based Advanced Practitioner role operating on a four-week rolling rota, covering evening and overnight shifts including weekends (two on, two off). Shifts typically run 4pm–11pm, 5pm–midnight (sleeper), or 8am–8pm at weekends.

As EDT Advanced Practitioner you will respond to complex safeguarding concerns and emergency referrals, undertake risk assessments, lead child protection strategy discussions, develop emergency care and safety plans, and represent the Local Authority at court proceedings and multi-agency forums. You will work alongside Police, Health, Housing, and other safeguarding partners, and contribute to team development through mentoring NQSWs, students, and trainees.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification (DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent), be registered with Social Work England, and have a minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience, with significant exposure to safeguarding, child protection, and complex risk assessment. Strong independent decision-making and resilience in high-pressure, out-of-hours situations are essential.

Rate: £29.51–£40.00 per hour. Based at 36 Orchard Street, Lincoln, LN1 1XX. Start date: 19 October 2026. If you are an experienced children’s social worker ready for a specialist EDT role, please get in touch today.
