Job Description

Thurrock Council is seeking an MRICS-qualified Estates Surveyor to support its Property Team in managing a mixed commercial estate, based in Grays, Essex (RM17 6SL). This is an interim day-rate role paying £297.62–£400.00 per day via Prism, starting 31 August 2026.

You will act as the primary point of contact for tenants across the Council’s commercial portfolio, leading on all Landlord and Tenant matters — rent reviews, lease renewals, lease re-gears, and the implementation of new lease agreements. Working closely with legal and finance colleagues, you will ensure lease transactions are progressed efficiently and that rental income, service charges, and other payments are accurately reflected in financial systems.

The role carries significant reporting responsibilities: you will provide regular updates on lease events, monitor property income and expenditure budgets, prepare financial forecasts, and report performance against targets to support strategic decision-making.

Essential requirements include MRICS qualification, substantial commercial Landlord and Tenant surveying experience, a proven track record in rent review and lease renewal negotiations, and strong stakeholder management skills. Experience of budget monitoring and financial reporting is required. Public sector or local authority property experience is desirable.
