Job Description

Birmingham Children’s Trust is seeking an experienced Childrens Senior Practitioner to take a lead practice role within Children’s Services, based in Stirchley, Birmingham (B30 3BN). This is a locum position paying £24.51–£33.29 per hour via Prism, with a start date of 21 September 2026.

In this role you will hold a complex caseload requiring advanced social work knowledge, skills, and professional judgement across the full casework cycle for children, young people, and their families. You will provide expert assessment, intervention, and decision-making for the most complex cases, while also supporting the Team Manager in maintaining high standards of practice.

Key responsibilities include mentoring and informally supervising less experienced and newly qualified social workers, quality-assuring casework, promoting effective multi-agency partnership working, contributing to practice development and service improvement, and representing the department in meetings, conferences, and court proceedings as required.

Candidates must be qualified social workers registered with Social Work England and bring demonstrable experience of complex children’s casework at a senior level.
