Job Description
Semester Recruitment is seeking a SEND Family Help Lead Practitioner (Alternatively Qualified) for the London Borough of Sutton, based at the Civic Offices, SM1 1EA. This is a temporary role paying £20.37–£26.56 per hour via Prism, starting 1 September 2026.
Working within Sutton’s Children’s Services directorate, you will act as the Lead Professional for a caseload of families at Family Help threshold level. Using relational, trauma-informed and solution-focused approaches, you will conduct whole-family assessments, create SMART plans, and coordinate multi-agency support to keep children safe and build on family strengths. Where needs escalate, you will co-work cases alongside qualified social workers, ensuring safeguarding procedures are implemented, and provide step-down support once social work intervention has concluded.
Key responsibilities include facilitating Team Around the Family meetings, undertaking direct work with children and families, pathway planning, transitions work, and maintaining accurate case records in line with Sutton’s expectations.
Candidates must hold a recognised relevant qualification (social work, child care, youth work) or have a minimum of two years’ experience working with children and families across a range of needs. Knowledge of child safeguarding legislation, restorative and trauma-informed practice, and experience of multi-agency working are essential. Flexibility to work occasional evenings or early mornings and undertake home visits is required.
If you have the skills and experience to make a real difference for children and families in Sutton, please get in touch.
